Michael Owen tears into Everton player vs Liverpool during Merseyside derby

Ashley Young is 38 now and is a senior figure in the Everton team, which is why it came as a surprise when he got himself sent off against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield in the Merseyside derby.

Everton took on Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Ashley Young started the Merseyside derby for Everton.

Young started at right-back for Sean Dyche’s side.

The former Aston Villa full-back was sent off in the 37th minute for two yellow cards.

Interestingly, both of Young’s yellow cards came for fouls on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.

Diaz was giving Young a torrid time, and the 38-year-old just could not cope with him.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen was particularly not impressed with the way that Young got the second yellow card.

The full-back brought down Diaz on the edge of the box.

There was no need for Young to do that.

Owen said on Premier League Productions: “I don’t think Ashley Young, especially as a senior player, hasn’t got anyone to blame but himself when he looks at that second yellow.”

Ashley Young will be disappointed

I believe that Everton full-back Ashley Young will be disappointed with himself for getting sent off.

Of course, Luis Diaz was getting the better of him, but he should have kept his calm.

Young should have been more mature about the situation.

If the Englishman felt that it was going to get worse for him, then he could have just asked Everton manager Sean Dyche to take him off.

Instead, Everton went down to 10 men in the Merseyside derby, and that too in the first half.

Of course, mistakes happen in matches, even in derbies, but I believe that Young should have been smart about things.
