Jordan Pickford has recounted a hilarious joke that Mason Holgate played on him last year.

Speaking to BBC Sport’s Football Focus, the Everton goalkeeper told the story of when his ‘head was gone’ following a prank from his former teammate.

Holgate struggled for regular game-time with the Toffees last season and eventually joined Southampton on a season-long loan in the summer, however it looks like Pickford won’t be forgetting him anytime soon.

The Everton goalkeeper has spent the last six years at Goodison Park and has been around some huge characters such as Richarlison and Yerry Mina, however he has explained how it was Holgate that caught him out.

When asked what the best or worst dressing room prank that he had ever seen was, Pickford quickly replied with a few chuckles. He said: “I got absolutely done last year. It’s incredible.

“So Mason Holgate’s ordered some fart spray and I’m coming to my room and I’m thinking ‘something smells here’. So then he’s buzzing off me, he was smelling all my clothes and I was stinking going home.

“So then the next morning I wake up, got my missus to smell all my clothes, everything on my body and I said ‘do they smell?’. She was like ‘no’. So then I came in the next day and I’ve been done again. He’s absolutely done me and I’m like paranoid Pete. My head was gone.”

Jordan Pickford loves a kebab, garlic bread and double saves

In a very entertaining interview with Pickford and Seamus Coleman, the shot-stopper also revealed that his favourite meal is a kebab with chips and garlic sauce, alongside a cheesy garlic pizza bread.

Following a more serious question, Pickford named his best memory at Goodison Park as his outrageous saves as Everton picked up a brilliant 1-0 win over Chelsea in May 2022.

The 29-year-old is definitely a unique figure on Merseyside and is definitely the kind of player the fans want in between their sticks during such a significant part of their history.

Pickford is hard-working, determined and passionate – and that is why it will always be baffling why he gets so much criticism.
