Everton, ever since Kevin Thelwell joined the club, has been acting with far more intelligence and care in the market.
After all, he instantly recognised their perilous financial position and took appropriate measures to rectify this instantly.
Having just navigated a campaign riddled with PSR sanctions, he and the club will be hoping that this coming season passes by without such turmoil.
And with a few key sales having already been made, that is an expectation rather than just blind hope.
Ben Godfrey and Lewis Dobbin have already left Goodison Park with little pushback, but something suggests that things might not be so simple with Neal Maupay, one of Thelwellβs rare mistakes.
Neal Maupay provides update on his Everton future
Now speaking live on talkSPORT earlier this morning (02/07, 8:42 am), Maupay was honest and open when quizzed about his Everton future.
After all, ever since joining in the summer of 2022, he has struggled to make the impact expected, even spending all of the most recent Premier League campaign out on loan with Brentford.

He is the furthest thing from a Sean Dyche player, and likely has no place within his team, yet this latest revelation might come as a surprise to most.
Maupay claimed: βI think itβs pretty simple. I was on loan at Brentford last season. They had an option. They havenβt taken it yet. They had until the end of June. I will be back next week at Everton.β
Everton could cash in on Neal Maupay
Although Brentford did not exercise their purchase option within Maupayβs loan contract, that should not completely rule them out from returning for the Frenchman.
Especially given the huge funds they clearly have, with Β£35m negotiations for Archie Gray having been all discussed before Tottenham Hotspur swooped in.
The Toffees clearly do not need Maupay, and with Everton signing Iliman Ndiaye too, his usefulness only wanes.
There is no place for him within Dycheβs squad, and this summer marks a real turning point in his career.
He could either remain at Goodison Park, as he has just revealed his plans to return, and stagnate as someone unlikely to ever be used.

Or, he could proactively seek an exit, and in turn provide Everton with some much-needed additional funds after a summer where Kevin Thelwell has already been surprisingly active.
The outcome of this saga remains to be seen, but Maupay is an unpredictable character. His future remains a mystery, but his place outside of Dycheβs plans is certain.
