Neal Maupay sends message to 32-year-old Brighton star after Everton draw

Neal Maupay is continuing to put himself at odds with his parent club Everton, despite the fact that he is still set to return to them at the end of the season.

He is seemingly taking every opportunity to make his stance known on the side that unloaded £15m on his services, that he no longer wants to play for them.

As a polarising figure at the best of times, usually when he features for your club he is expected to endear himself to the supporters. However, after a truly torrid debut year at Goodison Park, that could not have been further from the case.

Having since lambasted Evertonians for their treatment of him during that year, he is now treating Brentford as if he had signed permanently.

His latest comments are unlikely to reignite his relationship with Everton either…

What Neal Maupay did after Everton’s game vs Brighton

Conceding late on against Brighton and Hove Albion, Lewis Dunk rose highest to head home an equaliser that stole two vital points from Sean Dyche.

He was left furious, understandably so, and the travelling fans suffered a gut punch that sent them travelling back up north disheartened. They were just four minutes away from unbridled jubilance.

Adding insult to injury was Maupay, who wasted no time in sending a message over to the 32-year-old centre-back on Instagram.

As the towering defender posted about making his 400th league appearance for the Seagulls, a momentous milestone, the French striker was found in the comments section.

‘My Skipper,’ he wrote. A completely tone-deaf decision that saw someone employed by Everton congratulate the man who had just snatched a point from the relegation-threatened Toffees.

But, this is the conduct we have become accustomed to with Maupay.

Neal Maupay is burning Everton bridges

Although it was unlikely that he would have ever returned to feature under Dyche, given his diminutive stature and lack of proficiency, he has gone about voicing his desire to leave in a poor way.

Last campaign saw him score a sole league goal despite amassing a huge 4.80 expected goals, and whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin has arguably outdone that gross underperformance, the difference in attitude between the two dictates public opinion.

The Englishman remains a well-liked figure because he largely keeps his head down and always tries his best.

However, since leaving Maupay has burned bridge after bridge, with the fanbase growing an understandable distaste for the 27-year-old.

His comment on Dunk’s post is just one in a long line of transgressions that has make his future in Merseyside untenable.
