Neal Maupay has reunited with a number of his former Everton teammates.

In a Instagram story posted by the Frenchman, Maupay can be see out for a meal with Amadou Onana, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Arnaut Danjuma and Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Maupay joined Everton from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £15 million deal last summer, but failed to replicate previous form and managed only one goal in 31 appearances for the club.

The striker came under huge criticism during his time at Goodison Park, with the club even having to condemn the social media abuse he received following Everton’s defeat to Fulham last month.

After a disastrous spell on Merseyside, Maupay joined Brentford on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day. The 27-year-old was previously named the Bees’ Players’ Player of the Year after netting 25 goals and providing eight assists in 43 games in the Championship.

While most fans were delighted to see Maupay leave the club this summer, the forward certainly hasn’t been forgotten by his former teammates.

Onana reposted Maupay’s Instagram story to his own account and wrote the caption: “Old friends reunited”.

Friendships at Everton are important to players’ performances on the pitch

The Belgian only joined the Toffees a few weeks before Maupay, as well as Gueye re-signing for the club shortly after. Meanwhile, Danjuma hasn’t even been at Goodison Park for two months.

The five players all clearly formed a strong bond during the year they were all together, despite Everton enduring a very difficult campaign.

While it is yet to be replicated on the pitch, the connection between the players is very important and Sean Dyche will be hopeful that moments like this can help them work together in games.

The Instagram photo suggests that Everton are already in London ahead of their meeting with Brentford on Saturday evening. However, Maupay won’t be available to face his parent club and will have to sit out of the clash.
