At the start of January last year Everton Women completed an eye-catching new addition, albeit one familiar to the club.
The Blues snapped up talented young goalkeeper Sandy MacIver who had spent three years in the United States studying at Clemson University and playing with Clemson Tigers.
MacIver had previously played with Everton as a youngster, as well as Manchester City, before deciding to make the move across the pond.
She was set for a battle, with Everton already having Finland international Tinja-Riikka Korpela and Kirstie Levell on the books.
But MacIver soon began to showcase her ability, especially in the FA Cup, and pushed her way into the starting role at Walton Hall Park for this season.
The 22-year-old is now the undisputed number one for Willie Kirk’s side and some will be wondering if she might be set for a future as England’s first-choice.
MacIver is still awaiting her first cap but has already been called into the senior set up. Going forward, she is likely to battle Ellie Roebuck of Manchester City for the honour of surpassing Karen Bardsley as her nation’s number one choice.
Everton fans will undoubtedly be backing MacIver to win out in that battle, especially if she continues to produce the form she has shown in her year back on Merseyside.
