Opta supercomputer shares Jack Grealish and Everton’s chances of beating Aston Villa

Everton face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday and David Moyes is looking for a response after a poor start to 2026.

The Toffees have failed to win any of their three games since the turn of the year, losing to Brentford, drawing with Wolves and then losing to Sunderland on penalties in the FA Cup.

Frustratingly, all three defeats were at home, and it’s clear that Everton are yet to fully settle at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

But this Sunday the Toffees will be on their travels – and a big test lies in wait against Villa.

Unai Emery’s side are having a brilliant season, and are currently third in the Premier League table and just five points off the top.

Paul Merson thinks Everton will lose 3-0 to Villa.

But what chance do Opta give Everton of winning?

Opta shares chance of Everton beating Aston Villa

Predictably, Villa are fairly strong favourites to win this game.

Barring that recent 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, they have been absolutely superb and they’ll see this game with Everton as a chance to keep pace at the top.

It’ll be a tall order for Everton to win.

And the Opta supercomputer has given Everton just a 16.6% chance of winning based on the simulations they ran. Villa have a 64.4% win probability, meaning a 19% chance of a draw.

These numbers are no great surprise.

Villa are bang in form, especially at home. Their run of 11 home wins across all competitions is no doubt impressive – they last had a longer run than this in a single season between October 1971 and February 1972 (12).

Result vs Aston Villa would be huge catalyst for Everton

It’s not been the start to 2026 that anyone of an Everton persuasion was hoping for.

Those results against Brentford, Wolves and Sunderland were really disappointing, and Moyes needs to get things back on track.

Thankfully, Everton are still firmly in the mix for European football come the end of the season.

Who are you picking to start against Villa if you were David Moyes? 🤨

The league is very tight right now and everybody seems to be dropping points.

A result against Villa this weekend would be huge for Everton, both in terms of the league and from a confidence perspective.

It’d be a major statement to beat such an in-form side away from home, and hopefully that would coax The Friedkin Group to splash a bit more money in the transfer window to keep the momentum going.
