Bournemouth’s remarkable comeback win over Luton Town somewhat eased Everton’s relegation woes.
The Toffees sit four points ahead of The Hatters, who have now played the same number of games.
Things didn’t start well, with Rob Edwards’ side romping into a 3-0 lead on the south coast. However, Andoni Iraola’s team produced a stunning second-half comeback to seal an unlikely 4-3 victory.
Had Luton won, they would’ve pulled just one point off the Toffees, with Sean Dyche’s side still to visit Kenilworth Road before the season concludes.
During the game, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson perhaps got too excited over The Hatters’ 3-0 lead.
Paul Merson changes mind on Everton after Bournemouth fightback v Luton Town
In his weekly Sportskeeda column, Merson quickly backtracked on his comments, suggesting Everton should be concerned.
“The highlight result in midweek was the Premier League clash between Luton Town and Bournemouth,” he said.

“I tweeted at 3-0 that the likes of Nottingham Forest, Everton and Bournemouth should start worrying, but 20 minutes later, I tweeted again, saying they don’t need to worry anymore.
“What an unbelievable game of football that was as Bournemouth pulled off a sensational comeback – this is what the Premier League is about.”
Everton relegation woes still remain
This result is positive, but it shouldn’t detract from the fact that performances must improve. Luton are more than capable of picking up two or three victories between now and the end of the season.
In fact, on current form, Edwards’ side will likely outscore the Toffees.
Everton need to start picking up wins, and the sooner their goalscoring issues are resolved, the quicker Dyche will pull his side out of danger.
The three-week break is needed. It gives the squad time away from the pressures of Premier League football. Everton will travel to The Vitality Stadium on March 30 for their next top-flight fixture.
