Paul Merson has been giving his predictions ahead of Everton vs Newcastle United, highlighting a potential huge boost for Sean Dyche’s side.

Sean Dyche has the opportunity to get a lot of critics off his back this weekend with the chance to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Everton face the tough challenge of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United up next in the Premier League.

The Magpies head into the game fresh off a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, so they’ll be full of confidence.

One positive is the fact that Alexander Isak won’t be fit, but the threat of Anthony Gordon in itself is enough to trouble a vulnerable Everton defence.

Paul Merson has given his prediction ahead of the game, and it’s an interesting one.

Paul Merson makes Everton vs Newcastle prediction

Everton received news that Jarrad Branthwaite looks set to miss the game after picking up a quad injury.

The only positive surrounding the defender is the fact that it looks like Everton are in a good position when it comes to whether they have to sell Branthwaite.

However, Paul Merson has highlighted a potential huge boost for Everton instead of Newcastle.

When doing his column for Sportskeeda, Merson predicted a 1-1 draw.

“Newcastle are a funny team because I think they are fortunate the points they already have this season. Everton steadied their ship with a good win over Crystal Palace last weekend.

“So there’s not much pressure on them now compared to previous weeks. That helps Everton more than you think and it could be a huge boost.”

Injury issues threatens Everton’s progress

There’s no doubting the importance of Jarrad Branthwaite at the heart of the defence for Everton.

He made a big difference in his first game back as the Toffees secured their first win of the season, with some big performances from his partners at the back too.

However, now Dyche could opt to turn to Michael Keane as he doesn’t appear to have much trust in Jake O’Brien who joined in the summer.
