Paul Merson has made a confident prediction ahead of Everton’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to sportskeeda, the pundit admitted that he thinks Sean Dyche’s side will secure a ‘comfortable’ win at Goodison Park.
Everton‘s form has massively improved in recent months, with the side winning eight of their last 12 games in all competitions.
However, their home record hadn’t been quite as pleasant, with the win over Bournemouth the first in the Premier League since their final day victory over the same team back in May.
The Toffees weren’t phased by their form last night though, as they thrashed Newcastle United 3-0 on Merseyside. Goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto took the side out of the relegation zone and leaves them in very high spirits heading into this weekend’s tie.
Paul Merson thinks Everton will make it three wins in a row after predicting a 3-1 scoreline.
“Everton are a much better team away from home, but I think they will beat Chelsea this time around,” he said.
“Mauricio Pochettino’s side are missing something, I can’t quite point my finger at it. They did well against Man City but were absolutely blown away by Newcastle, particularly in the second half.

“Manchester United also got the better of them, so it’s not been an easy few weeks for Chelsea. I’ve never seen a team with such high-quality players give the ball away as much as Chelsea did against Manchester United, so things aren’t going well for them at the moment.
“I’d be shocked if Chelsea won this game. Everton are creating enough chances, but they haven’t put many of them away. However, I think they’ll do enough to secure a comfortable win this weekend.”
Can Everton make it three wins in a row?
Everton look a completely different team to the one that got hammered by Aston Villa earlier in the season, and they honestly look confident enough to beat anyone.
The defeat to Manchester United was a definite blip and one that they didn’t even really deserve to endure, but surely this weekend’s meeting with Chelsea will be much different.
The Blues have been extremely inconsistently recently but have shown they are liable to shipping in goals, having conceded 12 goals in their last four games.
If Everton can keep up the intensity, passion and atmosphere that we saw last night, then there is no doubt that they will be too strong for a struggling Chelsea team.
