Everton were linked with a move for Argentina international Carlos Alcaraz last January before he went to Southampton, but he could be on the move again.

The 20-year-old looks a supreme talent, having joined Southampton from Racing Club, and whilst he impressed in the Premier League, he could not help prevent the Saints from being relegated.

The attacking midfielder scored four times last season, but has not featured too regularly in the Championship in this campaign.

It has now been reported that Brentford are considering a January move for the Argentine star.

Brentford considering move for Alcaraz

The Evening Standard have now reported that Brentford are weighing up a move for Alcaraz, who joined Southampton for £12m in January, and the midfielder has a 15% sell-on clause in his contract, potentially raising the fee needed to sign him.

Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton approached Racing Club for Alcaraz in January before his move to Southampton, and perhaps these sides may retain an interest in him should he become available.

There are positives and negatives over a potential move for Alcaraz. Whilst he is a huge talent who could add both goals and creativity to the side, a big question mark remains over where he would actually play for Everton.

Sean Dyche has shown a preference for his physical midfield trio of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Andre Onana, meaning that the talented James Garner cannot get a start in the middle.

Whilst Dyche is at Everton, it seems unlikely that Alcaraz would be targeted or signed, despite Everton not possessing a playmaker with his style.

Russell Martin has recently described him as “outstanding,” and he looks likely to develop into a top-class midfielder in the long run.

Everton may regret not moving for him ahead of Premier League rivals given the potential for him to develop well, but Goodison Park may not be the best place for his development right now.
