Player who Everton axed in summer already set to leave new club after four months

Everton’s well-documented recklessness in the transfer market is one of many causes of their recent financial ailments.

And whilst it could be argued that stadium loan costs were what pushed them over the edge, which for the Premier League they did, were it not for the gross misconduct in the many years prior they would not have even been in such a precarious situation.

Farhad Moshiri has blood on his hands for wasting so much money in such dramatic fashion, with his transfer-laden tenure having proved to be so regressive that they are now staring down their third straight relegation battle.

Fortunately, at this season’s conclusion, they are set to see another set of stars depart as their contract ends. It should bring to an end the era of his highest-profile failures, at last, although they will once again recoup no fee.

However, with Yerry Mina, that decision last summer has proved very fruitful.

How has Yerry Mina got on since leaving Everton?

Questions arose when Sean Dyche decided against offering the Colombian defender a new deal, even a shorter and cheaper one, given how important he proved to be when fit.

The issue was that he seldom was available.

As a typically unorthodox and at times nasty South American stopper, he would do all he could to unnerve his opponent to secure the win. The persisting problem was that, after two or three games, his body would break down.

When fit, there was no one better at the club, so to see him leave was frustrating.

However, since joining Fiorentina on a free transfer, the Toffees’ decision has been vindicated.

As outlined by journalist Pipe Sierra, Mina could now already be set to depart, as he writes: ‘The most likely thing is that Yerry Mina (29) will stop being a #Fiorentina player in this market. He has 3 offers, but the best one so far is from #Olympiacos. No one from #FCPorto has contacted the player’s circle; Maybe there is interest, but for now they are just rumors.’

Why did Everton let Yerry Mina leave?

Having joined for £27m, it was painful to merely allow him to exit for free.

However, it is a depressing trend that has happened with so many of their lucrative stars, with Yannick Bolasie, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and potential Andre Gomes in the summer all having left for next to nothing.

It is this inability to recoup anything that has devastated them financially, but to keep him would have proven even more so.

After all, he was more than happy to sit on the treatment table for the bulk of his time at Goodison Park, despite being one of the club’s highest earners.

Mina left because Dyche could no longer trust him, and when that happens between a player and a manager, there is often no coming back. It seems the same has occurred in Italy after just four months.
