Everton are an emotional club, with a fanbase as devoted as they come.
Their desire to see their team succeed is revered, yet it has made their excruciating struggles in recent years even tougher to take because of just how much they care.
No fan deserves to be treated like they have, let alone for actions that they played no part in.
Farhad Moshiri has sought to bring the good times back to Goodison Park, but despite his vast fortune has failed miserably, instead just accumulating crushing debt and inciting a PSR backlash.
However, that’s not to suggest that there were no moments of enjoyment, with the start of one season particularly outstanding.
James Rodriguez set to become a free agent
And now, one of the stars of that campaign could be set to be available once again, with journalist Rudy Galetti revealing that James Rodriguez is set to leave Sao Paulo after just shy of one year with the Brazilian club.
Having failed to find a stable home ever since he left Everton in 2021, jumping from Al-Rayyan to Olympiacos before settling in Brazil, even a return to South America has not settled the 33-year-old.

And, as Fabrizio Romano would later detail, he still craves European football, and proved this summer that he still has the quality needed to succeed, winning player of the tournament at the recent Copa America.
Galetti also wrote: ‘Sao Paulo are in advanced talks with James #Rodriguez to early terminate his contract, confirmed.
‘The Colombian player still has 1-year agreement left with the club: developments are expected soon.’
Could James Rodriguez have one ‘last dance’ at Everton?
Whilst it might be unlikely for Sean Dyche to sacrifice his long-term strategy and go for Rodriguez, given the short-term deals he continues to be offered, this would represent a far less risky strategy than Everton have employed in the past.
And, as was proven the first time he joined, his shirt sales alone would help justify whatever fee he was paid.
There would be little to no links if the legendary veteran did not keep fuelling the fire himself, with James Rodriguez hinting at an Everton return earlier this year.
So, perhaps the Toffees could pounce on this desperation and inexplicable lack of interest, by snagging a truly world-class creator who could fill a few spots for Dyche.

During his one and only season at Goodison Park, during the 2020/21 term, Rodriguez scored six and assisted four across just 19 Premier League starts, but offered far more in terms of his constant and blatant threat.
Perhaps he could now enjoy one ‘last dance’ and give Evertonians what they so richly crave: the opportunity to see him don a royal blue shirt in the flesh.
