‘Poor’: Chris Sutton was really not impressed with one thing Everton have failed to do this season

Chris Sutton has slammed Everton’s terrible home record this year.

The pundit included two Luton Town players in his Premier League Team of the Week following their surprise win at Goodison Park.

The Toffees looked to have turned things around and were expected to breeze past their newly promoted opponents after enjoying back-to-back wins over Brentford and Aston Villa.

However, the hosts found themselves 2-0 down at the hour mark and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s third in three games proved to only be a consolation as they handed Luton their first win in the Premier League.

While surprising considering how they have performed over the last two games, the weekend’s defeat just shows exactly how poor their form on Merseyside has been.

The win over Brentford was their first victory on home soil since their last win over the same team back in March. They have since lost to the likes of Fulham, Wolves and Arsenal on their own patch.

Writing for BBC Sport after including Luton’s Tom Lockyer in his team, Sutton said: “I’m not entirely sure if this win by Luton is a commentary on how good the visitors were to pick up their first ever win in the Premier League or how poor Everton were in front of goal.

“What is it with Everton and home matches? They’ve lost seven out of their past eight.”

Why is Everton’s home record so bad?

Everton’s home record is abysmal and it is really frustrating for fans given that they have actually performed very well on the road on a number of occasions. Since fighting relegation, the Toffees have taken points from Brighton, Chelsea and Manchester City away from home.

But while Everton fans are some of the best in the country and deserve the performances to replicate their support at Goodison Park, it is clear that many of the players they are watching can’t handle the pressure that comes with every single match.

Everton need players that don’t fear getting stuck in, that are passionate and are prepared to fight for the club. There is too many that really don’t seem that bothered these days.
