Potential £22m Everton transfer could be a repeat of Moise Kean disaster

Everton’s transfer business under Farhad Moshiri’s leadership has been nothing short of shambolic, with lucrative failures a frustratingly common occurrence.

Whilst their willingness to spend in an effort to progress has never been in doubt, it is instead the recruitment that has been the real issue, with that fortune thrown down the drain.

As such, it should come as no surprise that they have since been sanctioned, even if the ten-point deduction is widely viewed as ‘over-excessive’.

Whilst many might point to the likes of Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes as two of the more frustrating acquisitions under the Iranian’s tenure, Moise Kean would certainly be in that conversation despite recouping a significant fee upon leaving.

After all, he marked an enthralling capture for the club back in 2019, spending £27.5m to tempt the young marksman from Juventus.

However, with just four goals in 39 games, it’s fair to say that he failed to hit his mark in England.

Worryingly for Sean Dyche, there is every chance they could repeat this feat with Samuel Iling-Junior, who is reportedly a target for Kevin Thelwell. Having been quoted at a €25m (£22m) sum in the summer, such an outlay could be a disastrously risky move given their current restraints.

Who is Samuel Iling-Junior?

Having shot to fame for scoring on his full Juventus debut, the 20-year-old Englishman has seen his form closely followed ever since.

Starting his career with Chelsea before trading London for Turin, the youngster has since racked up 22 senior appearances for the Old Lady, having showcased his talents both out wide and at full-back.

Also rising through the international ranks, having made appearances for England’s U21s, it seems the sky is the limit for Iling-Junior.

However, that too was the case with Kean. The 23-year-old marksman had scored six Serie A goals from just five starts the year before joining Everton, and was promised a sparkling career.

Whilst that may still come to fruition, it was certainly halted on Merseyside.

Although it might be easier for the English ‘talent’, as branded by journalist Mina Rzouki, to acclimatise, there are still huge risks associated with signing another young Juventus man for big money.
