Everton finished up their 2025/26 season today, and attention will now turn to the next transfer window.

Everton missed out on European football, with all the damage being done over the past few weeks.

The Toffees found themselves in great positions to win games, but surrendered points too easily in the end.

Which of these players do you want to see Everton SIGN in 2026?

The following names have been suggested by fans on TalkingPoints…

It has been really frustrating to watch unfold, given how tight the league has been.

Everton have wasted opportunities. But the positive is that Everton will at least have a more manageable schedule next season.

And one player Everton are thought to have held an interest in is Hayden Hackney – but one club is already ready to accelerate their pursuit.

Hayden Hackney really caught the eye this term, and finished as the Championship Player of the Season.

There has been plenty of speculation about his future in recent months, with Middlesbrough’s promotion charge seen as key to what happens with him.

Boro lost the play-off final against Hull City on Saturday, meaning Hackney has missed out on the Premier League – but there’s every chance he’ll still be playing in the top-flight with another club.

And as per TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest are ready to make their move.

They say that the Reds are ready to act quickly, knowing that lots of clubs are in for Hackney. Everton are again mentioned in the report.

They are said to be ‘ready to waste little time in trying to secure his signature’, which could – and maybe should – prompt Everton to accelerate their own pursuit. But internally, Forest now believe the pathway is considerably clearer after Boro’s failure at Wembley.

Of course, Forest face the prospect of losing Elliot Anderson this summer, with the midfielder heavily linked with Manchester City.

It’s little wonder they’re already eyeing up a replacement.

Boro are said to want £25 million for Hackney.

Everton must not waste time over Hackney

When it was confirmed that Boro had lost to Hull, it was inevitable there’d been a report about Hackney’s future before the weekend was out.

He is clearly very coveted, and Forest’s interest seems very strong, which is bad news for Everton.

Hackney has excelled in a lot of metrics this season and appears to be a real all-rounder in midfield, which could make him an exciting addition next to James Garner.

Idrissa Gana Gueye could yet leave Everton if the club decide not to trigger the one-year extension options, and Hackney really would be a great replacement.

We’ll see what TFG can come up with – certainly, this is a great opportunity to prove to fans just how ruthless they can be.
