George Pickford keen to impress in Everton pre-season

Pickford was nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Season despite spending a chunk of the season away from Finch Farm out on loan with Southport.

The goalkeeper’s stint with the National League North has been deemed a success by those on Merseyside after he made six league starts.

It was even suggested to Everton News that Pickford was ‘following in the footsteps of David Raya’ who also enjoyed a stint at Haig Avenue.

Everton currently have Mark Travers and Tom King providing support to Jordan Pickford in the senior squad.

There is an expectation that Pickford could potentially be handed some minutes during pre-season before he and his camp make a decision on his future.

It must be acknowledged that Everton secured Pickford to a new contract before he was sent out on loan to Southport.

The 19-year-old is now under contract at Finch Farm until 2028.

George Pickford won’t be short of loan opportunities

Everton’s pre-season plans are yet to be revealed, but there is an expectation for a modest programme compared to last season’s trip to the United States.

The extent of Pickford’s involvement in Everton’s pre-season will have to be seen, with Moyes alluding to an opportunity for Braiden Graham already.

Pickford has been another standout from the U21s’ campaign under Tait, having kept six clean sheets in 14 Premier League 2 appearances.

Earlier in the campaign, Pickford earned a call-up to Everton senior training at Finch Farm, where he was able to train alongside England’s number one.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding Pickford’s potential on Merseyside, with another loan move set to be considered over the coming months.
