Sue Smith believes Everton were unlucky not to go 1-0 up due to VAR.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, the pundit admitted that she thought Abdoulaye’s Doucoure’s disallowed goal was ‘really tight’ and praised the Toffees’ build-up.

Everton were narrowly beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park, with substitute Sasa Kalajdzic netting the only goal of their game with the visitors’ first shot on target.

Sean Dyche’s side have now lost all of their opening three games after what was arguably a six-pointer on Merseyside.

The home side certainly had their chances, with Doucoure‘s second half goal ruled out for offside shortly before Wolves’ opener.

Smith claimed that she actually thought the goal was onside and has applauded Everton for their efforts, saying: “It’s actually really good play from Everton, but he’s offside.

“We thought it was onside, but it’s just really tight. It’s a lovely touch from Doucoure though.”

Everton weren’t the only side to have a goal disallowed though, with Fabio Silva putting the ball in the back of the net earlier in the half which was also offside.

Sheffield United fans have every right to look forward to Everton clash

The Toffees were unable to build on their let off and will now head into next week’s clash against Sheffield United with zero points from a possible nine.

The Blades – who sit above Everton only on goal difference – will be confident that they can give their fans something to cheer about on Saturday.

Sean Dyche’s side are still without a goal this season and their lack of attacking threat is glaringly obvious. Though it remains to be seen whether any striker could save them at this point.
