Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Brentford are now leading the race to sign Everton target and Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres, with the Swedish international looking likely to leave.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that Brentford see the 24-year-old as the ideal candidate to fill the void left by Ivan Toney’s eight-month ban for betting offences.
The ‘outstanding’ forward is valued at £20m by Coventry and has consistently been linked with a move to Goodison Park in recent months, though the Toffees currently lag behind the Bees in the race for his signature.
Indeed, the report also states that Everton have been on the trail of Gyokeres, alongside Leeds and West Ham, though Brentford currently have the ‘most conviction’ to agree a deal.
The Swede has scored 22 goals in all competitions for Coventry City so far this season, contributing 11 assists in what has been a stellar campaign.
Indeed, Coventry take on Luton Town this weekend in the Championship play-off final and promotion for Gyokeres’ side could make a deal for the sought-after forward a little more difficult.
Slow Everton could lose out on Gyokeres after months of interest
Coventry will no doubt want to keep hold of their star forward regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game at Wembley, but they will be especially keen to retain his services should they achieve promotion.
It is no secret that Everton need to invest heavily in their forward line this summer, and Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Goodison Park for many months.
However, Ivan Toney’s ban has certainly complicated matters, and with Brentford now leading the race for Gyokeres’ signature, the Toffees may miss out on this one.
Meanwhile, Everton must now prepare for a massive game at Goodison Park on Sunday as the Blues welcome Bournemouth for the final game of the season.
