After the news that Jordan Pickford signed a new deal, Everton now expect to see midfielder Alex Iwobi follow suit as reported in The Atheltic.

During an interview with iNews in November, Iwobi spoke about his troubles in his early days at Everton but since being moved into central midfield by Frank Lampard this time last year, Iwobi has since turned into one of Everton’s star players.

Only five months ago Arsenal legend Ian Wright said Arsenal needed a player like Iwobi.

“You look at his work rate, it’s unbelievable. It’s the kind of intensity that Mikel wants now and needs now, we need that, we need somebody who can press like that,” he said.

Since Sean Dyche has come in, we have seen Iwobi move onto the right side of midfield, a position he is comfortable in and even picked up an assist on the weekend setting up Seamus Coleman in the 1-0 win over Leeds United.

At the beginning of the season, Iwobi was one of the most creative midfielders in the league but as Everton’s form dipped, so did Iwobi’s, but one thing that cannot be questioned is his continued work rate.

Can Alex Iwobi be the future of Everton

Earlier this week Seamus Coleman spoke about three players he thinks are the future of Everton, but he could name Iwobi, Amadou Onana and James Garner as three more players to build a team around.

With Amadou Onana impressing more and more each game and James Garner coming back into the first-team picture shortly, Sean Dyche has the perfect midfield that has almost everything you could ask for. He just needs to find a way to get all three of them into the same team.
