Everton could try to sign Kelechi Iheanacho this summer.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who have reported that the Toffees are focusing on bringing in a new striker and Iheanacho is one name that has been mentioned.

Iheanacho has netted 55 goals in 206 appearances for Leicester since joining in a £25 million from Manchester City six years ago.

The ‘fantastic’ 26-year-old was named Leicester City’s Player of the Year last season as he bagged five goals and five assists as the Foxes were relegated to the Championship.

With the Nigerian now entering the final 12 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium, the Foxes may be open to selling the striker as they look to reinvent their squad in the hope of automatic promotion.

It’s unclear how much Everton would have to cough up to lure Iheanacho to Goodison Park, though they certainly wouldn’t be matching the £25m fee that the Foxes paid in 2017.

Alex Iwobi tried to sign Kelechi Iheanacho for Arsenal

A move to Merseyside would see Iheanacho link up with his Nigeria teammate, Alex Iwobi.

The Leicester City forward made his international debut back in 2015 – the same year that Iwobi declared for Nigeria after previously representing England at youth level.

The pair have spent the last eight years together in the international team and the Everton midfielder previously admitted that he tried to recruit Iheanacho whilst playing for Arsenal.

Speaking to Sky Sports in 2017, Iwobi said: “We have had a bit of banter this week.

“He was trying to persuade me to come to Manchester City and I was trying to persuade him to come to Arsenal.

“I would like to play against him. We have talked about the game a little bit, but we have been focused on playing for Nigeria. I have just got to prepare now and beat him!”
