The uncertainty is over and Rafa Benitez is the new Everton manager.

Whatever you think of the decision, it’s time for the Spaniard to get to work at Goodison Park.

The Athletic have published an extensive report on the process of getting Benitez through the door

One part of it claimed he’s already done an extensive audit of Everton’s squad, and he’ll no doubt bring his trademark diligence and obsessive work ethic to the job.

The report has also outlined what Benitez will apparently earn in his new role.

£7 million is his annual salary at Goodison Park now, so his services aren’t coming cheap.

And he’ll need to hit the ground running amid a backdrop of fan discontent because of his Liverpool connections.

Otherwise, the fanbase could turn toxic. Which isn’t ideal, given Everton have endured a season without fans at Goodison Park.

And last season’s home form in front of empty stadiums was so poor, undermining the push for Europe.

One of Benitez’s remits will be to improve that and ensure Everton are in the conversation for at least the Europa League come the business end of the season.

He’s being paid well enough to deliver exactly that and now it’s time for him to show what he’s made of.
