Sam Allardyce has heaped praise on Everton for the manner in which they approached the 2-0 defeat against Arsenal last time out.

David Moyes ran his former player Mikel Arteta close at the Emirates Stadium, only for Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman to secure a 2-0 win with late goals in the 89th and 97th minute respectively.

Despite that, the Toffees went close on several occasions, and Sam Allardyce has now praised Everton for the amount of chances they created up against the Premier League leaders.

What changes would you make? 🤔

Sam Allardyce left blown away by how creative Everton were against Arsenal

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, the former Everton boss said: “I have to say, when your luck is in. I think Arsenal were lucky against Everton.

“They had so many chances Everton, I never expected that at Arsenal, it was only great goalkeeping, blocking that kept the ball out, it could have been different.”

It was a game in which Everton proved their European credentials as Moyes remains firmly in contention to bring UEFA Conference League football – at least – to the Hill Dickinson Stadium next season.

The Toffees recorded nine shots – three of which were on target – and came within inches of taking the lead from an own goal after James Garner whipped in a devilish delivery.

Everton also won three corners, showing physical prowess which even spooked Arsenal into playing their own corners short in fear of the giants Moyes can deploy from set-pieces.

It was an admirable, brave display from Everton, who easily could have just sat deep and tried to hit Arsenal on the counter attack as many a side have done at the Emirates Stadium this season.

Does Tim Iroegbunam deserve an extended run in Everton’s starting XI after his display vs Arsenal? 🤔

If Moyes can get the Toffees playing like that in each of the final eight games, Everton should at least qualify for the UEFA Conference League.
