‘Scandalous’… Alan Stubbs fumes at VAR after latest Everton controversy in Bournemouth loss

Everton have once again found themselves on the end of another VAR controversy this match week.

And whilst Burnley will likely dominate the headlines for the farcical decision which led to a red card and penalty, rightly so, the Toffees too have every right to feel just as aggrieved.

After all, with the scores level and neither side really enforcing their own will on the game, a gifted opener could have been crucial for Sean Dyche’s men to hold onto.

As it happened, they would later fall behind, forced to chase the match after Dominic Solanke headed in the opener.

It was typically Everton, and it marked a dull replay of what has happened so often this campaign. As a fan, it’s truly getting tiring now.

And for one high-profile supporter, Alan Stubbs, he has had enough.

Alan Stubbs fumes at VAR

Taking aim at VAR for failing to overrule the terrible on-field decision, the former Everton man questioned what the point of the service was if it always comes to the incorrect decision.

His comments are in response to Match of the Day’s coverage, in which the two pundits both agreed that the decision was ‘ridiculous’.

Stubbs would then add: ‘Another scandalous decision from yesterday’s referee Samuel Barrett. Var ( virtually always rong ) should have come in and overruled but it’s @Everton so no penalty!! Howard Webb it has become worse since you took over!’

As a staunch and renowned follower of the Toffees, his voice carries far more weight than the average match-going fan. However, just like his arguments against the points deductions have fallen on deaf ears, this latest tirade is certain to as well.

The Premier League seem content with this torrid product that they keep serving up to hard-working loyal fans, now merely the customers in their eyes.

Everton fail to get another penalty decision

It is these kinds of decisions that can be the difference between survival and relegation, and yet they always seem to go against Everton.

The outstanding examples from seasons gone by comes from the 2021/22 campaign, VAR’s decision to ignore Rodri’s clear handball saw a point stolen from the hard-working Toffees.

And this season, the errors have only piled up.

This is the latest in a long line of terrible decisions, the likes of which Everton’s Fan Advisory Board have already penned in a letter to Howard Webb.

But, just like Stubbs’ claims, they too are unlikely to spark mass change.
