Sean Dyche admits he can’t understand one aspect of Everton’s Premier League points deduction appeal

It is widely agreed that the Premier League’s treatment of Everton has been nothing short of embarrassing over these past few months.

Even if rival fans cannot separate their tribalism from a very real problem that will affect most other top-flight English clubs, there remains a growing number of those who can see the damage PSR has done to the integrity of the division.

Anyone who argues that these statutes have done anything other than strengthen the ‘bigger’ sides’ monopoly over the league is either delusional or a fan of those outfits. It’s that simple.

Now, it seems that even Sean Dyche is sick of the waiting to hear about Everton’s fate, and he has finally broken his silence on the matter.

What Sean Dyche said about Everton’s appeal

Whilst he and the club are sworn into secrecy regarding their true feelings on the case, so as not to pervert the course of justice, the 52-year-old has every right to at least try and speed the process along.

After all, the 52-year-old is being negatively affected with each passing day that this issue is not resolved.

So, speaking to BBC Sport after his side’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last night, he finally snapped, noting: ‘I just think maybe for the good of the process, and I don’t know the minutia I’m sure there’s a lot more to it, but the power these – this is the Premier League – how can they fast track it? 

‘Everyone is flummoxed by the first decision. Now we have to wait for the second. And this is not just about Everton by the way. 

‘I think everyone in football is saying we are all amazed so at least give a chance to get on with it, that’s how it feels to me, from other people around the ground not just Everton fans. But anyway, I can’t do nothing about it so we’ve just got to swallow it and wait and see.’

How can the Premier League keep getting away with this?

The Premier League’s conduct throughout this entire process involving Everton has been nothing short of farcical.

This is evidenced by the thrown-together nature of almost everything that has happened, even predating the actual November deduction.

First, the rules that decided how much overspending was allowed were made around a decade ago and have remained unaltered. With inflation high and the money in football having skyrocketed since then, the lack of progression is laughable.

But, that is probably the most set-in-stone part of their entire operation.

After all, the statutes regarding how a punishment would be decided were so painfully lazy and unprepared, and make a mockery of any kind of justice system they seek to employ.

The ten points they conjured up made little sense to the wider footballing world, and what’s even more ridiculous is the fact that there was no date set for when these crimes would have to be punished.

Fans and the media are just waiting, left in limbo whilst the Premier League and their independent commission take all the time they need whilst leaving other teams’ fate hanging in the balance.

At least Alan Myers has sought to keep fans in the loop.

What’s worse is that the same will occur again later on in the term, with theirs and Nottingham Forest’s second offence due soon as well. Farcical from start to finish.
