Sean Dyche can ease big Dwight McNeil blow by unleashing ‘bright’ Everton starlet

This weekend is set to throw up some interesting clashes in the Premier League, but none more historic than the meeting of Everton and Aston Villa.

As one of the most played fixtures in top-flight history, these two clubs have experienced title success and relegation battles across their impressive respective histories.

However, Sunday’s meeting at Goodison Park marks the first time in a while that there has been a distinct gulf between the two sides favouring the Birmingham outfit.

After all, they currently sit second, just two points off top of the league, whilst the Toffees are still floundering in 17th.

That alone is not what is set to hamper the hosts though, with reports emerging that detail Dwight McNeil’s expected absence certain to play a big role in the clash.

As one of Sean Dyche’s most influential players, to be without him will mark a hammer blow for his system and their chances of winning. Even if Arnaut Danjuma might represent an ideal alternative, rumours of his imminent exit could perhaps throw his place into doubt.

So, who else could the 52-year-old manager call on to fill such a vacancy? Well, Lewis Dobbin surely marks the standout option.

How good is Everton’s Lewis Dobbin?

Having already made a sole Premier League start this campaign, alongside a host of substitute appearances, the 21-year-old’s growing influence at Goodison Park is to be admired.

After all, just last season saw him star in League One with Derby County, so he has made the step up from that level with aplomb.

A tally of five goals and six assists across all competitions was an admirable return for the tricky wide man, who even hammered home his first senior goal for Everton just last month to cap off their fine win over Chelsea.

A thunderous effort lasered in from the edge of the box, Dobbin would earn huge praise from a whole host of elite stars for his breakthrough moment.

Now, with a vacancy opening up for him, perhaps Sunday might mark an ample opportunity to stake his starting claim in the absence of McNeil.

Having been lauded before by former head coach Rafa Benitez, the physical assets that the youngster boasts should make him a problem for any full-back.

The Spaniard once noted: ‘We are really pleased to see him [Dobbin] doing well in the training sessions. He is very bright and has the pace and ability.’

Dyche will be hoping to see some of that this weekend, to ease his injury woes and end their three-match losing streak in the league.
