Everton manager Sean Dyche can’t believe a decision made by referee Stuart Attwell during the Toffees’ 1-0 win over Sheffield United.
Abdoulaye Doucoure’s first-half strike was enough for Everton to end their 2023/24 home campaign on a high.
However, the game wasn’t short of controversy after Dominic Calvert-Lewin was involved in an altercation with Blades defender Jack Robinson.
The Sheffield United man raised his hands and pushed the Everton forward; however, no further action was taken by the officials.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Dyche claimed Robinson should’ve been given his marching orders, sighting a similar incident involving Doucoure during last season’s Goodison Park fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
He said: “If you remember Doucoure on Harry Kane last season, I don’t think there was as much in that, and he still went [was sent off] for that. I don’t personally want to see players be sent off.
“I like physicality in the game, and I think it is dying out, and it shouldn’t be. But on this occasion, it was too obvious and aggressive, and for the modern game, it was a red card. You don’t want to see it, but the way the game is now, you’ve got to try and be purer than pure.”
What has Chris Wilder said about the incident?
Unsurprisingly, Chris Wilder shared a very different view on the incident. “No. There was a coming together between them, I know both boys. I think the referee handled it the right way,” he explained.
“Jack got his hands up and pushed, and he shouldn’t have done, but I don’t think there was any maliciousness in the game at all, and the referee was right to keep it 11 v 11.”
The fact that one manager thinks it’s a sending-off, and the other doesn’t probably mean the referee has just about come to the right decision.
It was a risky moment from Robinson, and on another day, he could’ve been sent for an early bath.
Overall, the decision, or lack of it, won’t dampen what has been an excellent end to the season. Everton are now on 40 points and would’ve been competing in the top half if it wasn’t for the Premier League docking points.
For those enjoying the Goodison Park sun, the win over the Blades was a fitting way to bring the home campaign to an end.
