Everton went toe to toe with Manchester United yesterday, and would have been good value for a result had they not self-destructed early in the first half.
Conceding two penalties on the road is a truly criminal way to lose a football match, let alone for a side like the Toffees, who simply cannot find the net at the moment.
It doomed them to yet another defeat, and they are now 11 Premier League games without a win.
And yet, Sean Dyche remained positive in his post-match summary.
In fact, he argued that his side had done something that he personally had never done before.
Sean Dyche thinks Everton did something he had never done before
Speaking to Everton’s official website, Dyche unsurprisingly remained optimistic after what he felt was a positive showing.
And whilst he did let some of his frustration air, it remained a performance he was proud of, and that he felt deserved more.

Actually, he noted how groundbreaking the display was, noting: ‘I can’t remember the stats being that high [at Old Trafford], with 23 efforts at goal, 50/50 on the possession, and I think we agree it was mainly us in the attacking area of the pitch. [We had] 45 entries into the box – of quality – and 15 for them.’
However, in the end, this counts for very little when the full-time score reads a 2-0 loss.
Sean Dyche has little success against Manchester United
Whilst this might have been a historic performance for Dyche, combing back through his record against the Red Devils and it is clear that such a suggestion counts for very little.
After all, having faced United 17 times throughout his career, the 52-year-old actually only boasts a sole victory.
Five draws marks a somewhat admirable return given the calibre of sides he often took to face them, but with 11 defeats it is fair to say that more often than not he struggles when faced with a trip to Old Trafford.
So, for him to suggest that Everton dominated in a way he had never done before is all well and good, but ultimately it is clear that he has never really done that.
Naturally, this is likely an effort to instil some much-needed confidence into his playing staff, as their torrid run continues.

However, it is hard to take such a notion seriously, and actually adds to the frustration of what is yet another defeat for a side swiftly falling back into relegation contention.
