Sean Dyche could ditch Calvert-Lewin for teen Everton ‘prospect’ v Crystal Palace

Everton’s FA Cup campaign kicks back into action tonight, as they seek to put their third-round tie with Crystal Palace to bed.

Having travelled to Selhurst Park a few weeks ago and been held to a 0-0 draw, this replay holds lots of weight for a side now awaiting two verdicts for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

But, Sean Dyche must try and regain some focus on the pitch, and a floodlit Goodison Park is no better place in front of a home crowd sure to be in fine voice.

However, there remains an outstanding selection headache for the 52-year-old, given neither of his strikers have shone of late.

But who else could possibly take up the mantle? We take a closer look…

Who could start up front for Everton vs Crystal Palace tonight?

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin scuffing the best chance of the match on Sunday, and Beto looking anonymous having replaced him from the bench, there is something of a striking crisis being endured at Everton currently.

Given they invested £45m in the summer on two new marksmen, it is a sad state of affairs to consider that a striker has not scored since the former Udinese man found the net in mid-December against Fulham.

Given it is obviously not working with the two usual mainstays, perhaps Dyche might benefit from trialling something new in the cup and handing Youssef Chermiti just his second start in a royal blue jersey.

How good is Youssef Chermiti?

Having joined from Sporting CP in the summer, heads were turned when the Toffees willingly unloaded £15m on an unproven 19-year-old.

However, he had been making waves over in Portugal, earning his breakthrough and finding the net from the bench on occasion.

A move to the Premier League was always certain to see his opportunities lessen, but his lack of league action will have frustrated him.

After all, the teenager scored three and assisted two in Liga Portugal last term from a mere nine starts, having been labelled a ‘superb prospect‘ by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig.

With a touch of pace and a unique fleet-footed energy to combine with his hulking frame, he boasts all the physical attributes needed to succeed within Dyche’s system.

He could surely do the work of Calvert-Lewin and Beto, and would have almost no pressure on having to score given neither of those two have been doing so in recent weeks.

It might mark a rogue concept, but there is arguably no better time to give Chermiti a chance to prove himself.
