Sean Dyche has no other choice but to start £33m player vs Chelsea, it’d be worrying if he doesn’t

Well, at last, it is Everton’s turn to play again, with their clash against Chelsea tonight the final in this Premier League match week.

And what a spectacle it promises to be.

Two sides who create plenty but simply cannot put the ball in the back of the net.

It is one which could be decided by any number of odd factors, with fortune likely to be high on that list.

However, Sean Dyche will first be hoping to get lucky with the fitness of one of his star men.

Will Amadou Onana be injured for the Chelsea game?

Speaking in his press conference, the former Burnley boss sought to offer a fitness update on a number of his players.

However, the one that people were really keen on was Amadou Onana, with the £33m maestro having missed their latest win over Burnley with a bit of soreness.

He noted: ‘He’s back training [Onana]. He’s been training today. Jimmy Garner got a knock today, but we are happy it’s just a knock. Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] trained today but we are pretty positive with him settling down over the next couple of days. We are just having to watch the players going forward.’

Being back in training and being in contention for a start are two completely different things under Dyche though, with Arnaut Danjuma having been ‘on the grass’ for some time now, but currently regaining fitness with the U21s.

Amadou Onana is too important to be out

Despite being something of a lightning rod for criticism, likely due to his boisterous personality and immense physical profile making him unable to hide, Everton are undeniably a better team with Onana in it.

After all, not only does he add defensive steel to allow James Garner to progress forward, but also he too is a keen creator, with technical prowess capable of unlocking defences on occasion.

When on form, there are truly few like him in world football, and that likely explains the lengthy list of suitors vying for his signature this summer.

If he is fit, he plays. It is as simple as that, with Idrissa Gana Gueye nowhere near his level, and Andre Gomes not nearly as workmanlike either when forced to operate deeper.

However, if he is once again deemed too fatigued to play, we could have a great problem on our hands.

It was expected that his absence against Burnley was minor, brought on out of precaution rather than genuine fear.

But if he is to miss a second week of football, a longer, underlying issue might be prevalent that could scupper the end of his season and in turn Everton’s survival hopes.
