Sean Dyche is risking turning the fans against him if he keeps on picking £40k-a-week Everton player

Everton are back in action this weekend, as they seek to move beyond their 6-0 drubbing earlier in the week in what is a must-win match.

After all, with their goal difference having taken a hammering at Chelsea, Nottingham Forest are now closer than ever to the Toffees.

And now they face one another on Sunday.

Hosted at Goodison Park, this will be a nervous but expectant crowd, hoping the home side can show enough heart, fight and desire to give them something to cheer.

However, there is one decision that Sean Dyche could, and very likely will make, which will blunt the atmosphere before the match has even begun.

He needs to learn from his mistakes.

Sean Dyche’s stubbornness could get him sacked

Whilst the 52-year-old manager has made plenty of errors throughout this unsettled season with Everton, there is an outstanding one which he continues to make.

And now, with pressure ramping up on his position in the dugout despite reports insisting he would not be sacked, surely he is aware that persisting with Ashley Young is helping nobody.

The 38-year-old, signed in the summer on a free transfer, was not expected to become a mainstay.

In fact, there was a quiet resignation that, on paper, this actually seemed quite a shrewd signing for no fee and a £40k-a-week wage. For a club cutting costs, he was a welcome addition.

That was, until Dyche became unreasonably reliant on the veteran, despite his string of crucial blunders and having Nathan Patterson and Ben Godfrey as alternative options.

Even now, with Seamus Coleman back fit, he has decided to move him further up the field, inexplicably accommodating him once again.

Should he not drop him against Forest, and then for the rest of the season, he is sure to lose the Evertonians’ backing.

Everton need pace and firepower vs Nottingham Forest

It could even be argued that such support is evaporating by the day.

After all, his style of play is unlikely to attract any plaudits, but his saving grace over the years has always been the results he commands.

He kept a lacklustre Burnley side in the Premier League for years, with little to no money available.

But, with Everton this season, he has already endured the club’s longest-ever winless run, all whilst exhibiting some truly turgid football.

With Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison forced to watch on from the bench, one of them must replace Young this Sunday in order to provide the necessary energy and firepower to actually threaten Forest.

Otherwise, Goodison Park will not be happy.
