Sean Dyche must soon unleash his £22m secret weapon for Everton

Under Sean Dyche, Everton finally have a style of play that suits the playing staff well.

It is hardly ground-breaking stuff, but the tactics in place allow them to remain solid and resolute at the back, whilst also playing to the strengths of his attacking unit.

As such, they have made clear progress under his leadership, with his starting squad relatively set in stone.

However, there are a few key names who could be set to upset that familiarity, with Andre Gomes and Seamus Coleman both nearing a return.

Given the latter has already made a number of appearances at youth level now, he is likely much further ahead, but the ‘classy’ £22m maestro, as branded by journalist Andrew Gaffney, marks an interesting option.

Although James Garner, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye have formed a pretty solid trio for rotation, the 30-year-old offers something unique from all three of them.

As such, a run of form could see him prove instrumental in taking Everton to a level far beyond their recent relegation dogfights.

How good is Andre Gomes?

The former Barcelona man was once one of the most revered players at Goodison Park by the fanbase, so there must have been something he was doing right.

As one of the few midfielders that have been at the club in recent years with that technical prowess and touch of class, his ability to dictate a match was second to none.

However, that happened far too little, and following his ankle break, he lost that yard of pace that saw him dwindle out of games even more.

A loan spell in France seemed to help him recapture some of that form, with the £112k-per-week midfielder having scored three, assisted two and averaged an 89% pass accuracy in Ligue 1, via Sofascore.

For comparison, only Onana’s 85% in the Premier League this season comes close to such passing proficiency.

Although he may not be the answer to all of Dyche’s problems, his return from injury could see him handed renewed hope in reigniting his Everton career.

With all the assets to thrive at this level, which he has proven before, there is reason to believe he could be a secret weapon for the Toffees to soon unleash on the English top flight once again.
