Sean Dyche must unleash £15m Everton player from the start vs Crystal Palace this weekend

Everton host Crystal Palace on Monday evening, with Sean Dyche’s side looking to register their first Premier League win of the new year.

The Toffees are coming off a 2-0 loss to Manchester City and have netted just four goals in 2024.

After a promising start to the season, glaring weaknesses could again be coming to the fore.

Goalscoring has been a long-term issue. Everton have scored just 1.1 goals per 90 minutes, the third lowest in the top flight (as per FotMob).

The Toffees’ impressive defensive record is keeping them afloat in this hotly-contested battle to avoid the drop.

With the second-most clean sheets in the league, Everton are potentially a clinical striker away from being completely clear of danger.

Dyche’s forward options have failed to hit the heights this season, which could open the door for a £15million summer signing to make an impact.

Should Youssef Chermiti replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin v Crystal Palace?

Youssef Chermiti arrived at Goodison Park as an unknown, and it’s fair to say the 19-year-old talents remain somewhat of a mystery.

Having signed a four-year contract, the Portuguese youngster is one for the long-term, yet Everton’s toothless nature should potentially see him thrust into first-team contention.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has hardly ripped up many trees during the 2023/24 season; three goals and one assist from 17 matches is hardly eye-catching form.

The same can be said for Beto, who has managed just one goal from his 19 Premier League outings.

Everton’s blunt attack needs reinvigorating, and Chermiti could provide another dimension. Having scored for the under-21s against Benfica in late January, the 19-year-old should be considered by Dyche.

The way forward is potentially utilising Chermiti in a two-pronged attack alongside Calvert-Lewin or Beto; having a player who can run in behind and stretch a defence is vital when facing the better sides in the league.

If Dyche were to throw Chermiti in from the outset, the home fixture against Palace feels like a good fit. Roy Hodgson’s side are missing some key players and have endured a torrid run of form, which included a humiliating derby defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.

A Palace side low on form and confidence could be there to be got at in what is a must-win fixture for Everton, especially at Goodison Park.
