Everton endured another tough afternoon as Manchester United ran out 2-0 winners at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Two first-half penalties from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford saw Erik Ten Hag’s side respond well to their derby day defeat last time out.

It was more of the same for Everton, with defensive lapses and a lack of cutting-edge once again causing issues for Sean Dyche’s side.

Talking on Sky Sports News, Michael Dawson cast his thoughts on the second penalty incident that Rashford converted.

Dawson drops ‘seething’ Everton claim

Dawson said: “Another penalty and Everton will be seething with this – they had a free kick, but Garnacho drives into the box, Godfrey brings him down, and that is a penalty.”

Defensive lapses are proving incredibly costly for Dyche’s side due to their inability to consistently hit the back of the net.

Before the game, the Everton boss remained confident in his side’s ability to create and score chances.

“We are showing the right signs, everyone knows that. But the frustration is actually taking the moment. We are getting into key areas in key moments, and the story of the season so far really is not taking chances but, as I always reference, it is a team responsibility,” he said.

“It’s not about one player. Obviously, generally, strikers are referenced, but it is a team responsibility – other people are getting chances as well. And we have got to keep doing that, that’s for sure.

“That is another challenge because it is not easy to create a lot of good chances in football, but we are doing that. So we have got to at least maintain that and add the detail in the final moment.”

But, for whatever reason, the former Burnley manager cannot find the right ingredients in front of goal.

A three-week break is now underway, and that’s probably the best thing for Dyche and his players. Work will undoubtedly be going on to try and right whatever is currently going wrong at Goodison Park.

Attention will now turn to the 3 pm kickoffs to ensure Everton’s league position remains relatively comfortable.
