Shocking reason VAR didn’t intervene in Everton penalty claim v Fulham

Everton took on Fulham on Tuesday night and in the game one huge talking point emerged, specifically centred around VAR.

Sean Dyche‘s side once again came out the other side of a Premier League fixture without three points and will feel hard done by to do so.

Everton‘s evening will have been made even worse by relegation rivals Luton Town thrashing Brighton 4-0 which leaves the Toffees in the relegation zone.

Everton will think they should’ve had a penalty, with a blatant handball not being given in the first half.

Ultimately a 0-0 draw does little either for either side who is battling bravely against relegation.

What happened with Antonee Robinson’s handball against Everton?

Everton will be thinking they’re cursed at this point with nothing going right for them on or off the pitch. Against Fulham, this foul luck continued with what many have deemed a clear penalty not even being reviewed.

In the 24th minute Everton had a free-kick which was taken by Arnaut Danjuma, initially cleared the rebound fell to James Tarkowski before Issa Dip managed to head his shot onto the bar.

The ball then came down and hit Antonee Robinson on the arm before it was eventually cleared from danger by Timothy Castange.

The incident wasn’t intervened in by VAR despite the clear contact with an outstretched arm. Now the reason as to why has been explained.

Why VAR didn’t intervene in Everton’s penalty claim

During the game as the Everton fanbase fumed over the VAR decision not to intervene, the Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas shed light on the reason.

He tweeted, “Understand VAR did not intervene when Robinson handled the ball inside his own area as his arm was deemed to be by his side.”

This is a ridiculous reason if true, considering still images show that his arm was outstretched and in an unnatural position.

Everton are yet to be granted a penalty in the league this season and after this latest decision has gone against them, it’s clear to see why some might think the Premier League may have an agenda.
