Simon Jordan has admitted he doesn’t agree with one “strange” part of Everton’s second PSR punishment.

The club were docked two points on Monday following last week’s three-day hearing. Sean Dyche’s side are now in 16th place, just two points above Luton Town in 18th.

Everton breached the Premier League’s £105million limit over three seasons by £16.6million. Monday’s verdict means the Merseyside club have now been docked eight points during the 2023/24 season. However, an appeal is in the works

It’s believed the Premier League sought a five-point deduction during last week’s hearing. However, due to mitigating factors the punishment was reduced.

However, speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, Jordan doesn’t believe mitigating factors should be considered.

“They are suggesting 10 points for Everton breaching at £19million and eight Forest breaching at £34million,” he explained.

“Of course, we also understand because we’ve had Stefan Borson in here talking about mitigating circumstances and the approach. Which I find strange, quite frankly.

“Mitigation by being cooperative shouldn’t be a factor. If you’re defending yourself, being cooperative isn’t part of your staple diet; you’re there to push back as robustly as you can.”

Could Everton still be relegated after the Premier League season has ended?

With Forest and Everton both set to appeal their latest punishment, there’s the possibility of the Premier League season concluding after the end of the current campaign.

The AGM would need to ratify both appeals, unfortunately, the current meeting is scheduled for five days after the end of the season.

It’s a scenario football finance expert Kieran Maguire has attempted to tackle.

“The frightening thought is that we could reach the end of the season and we still don’t know who’s relegated,” he told BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

“The Premier League wanted 10 points deducted from Everton the first time round, eight points from Forest and five points from Everton the second time round, and you look at that and there is no consistency.”
