Early on, Everton’s summer seemed destined to hinge on the future of Jarrad Branthwaite.

After all, he was quite clearly their most prized asset, and a sought-after one at that. With PSR looming, a sale was expected, but for how much remained the mystery.

The Toffees sought to remain firm on their stance amidst mounting pressure from Manchester United, and in the end, they got through the June 30th PSR deadline having retained the bulk of their top players.

However, that will likely not be the end of things, as there is still a long summer for this saga to drag on through.

Fortunately, we have been handed a fresh update to help progress this story along.

Update on Jarrad Branthwaite’s Everton future

The fact that interest has cooled has unsurprisingly coincided with Everton’s decision not to sell before July, thus strengthening their bargaining position.

It has therefore become clear that they did not need to sell many players to adhere to PSR, and so just Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey’s exits were enough.

It seems that the Red Devils have been left red-faced on this occasion, and their chances of acquiring the England international are only set to wane as the window goes on, unless they match the Toffees’ valuation.

The latest on Jarrad Branthwaite‘s saga comes courtesy of Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, who wrote on X: ‘Manchester United have held initial talks with Bayern Munich over defender Matthijs de Ligt. €50m valuation as per @Plettigoal. Interest in Jarrad Branthwaite remains but Everton under no pressure to sell & unlikely to lower £70m+ valuation.’

Sean Dyche will be delighted to keep Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park

Even if it means missing out on such a lucrative sum, Sean Dyche likely will not care.

After all, the finances mean nothing to him, but what will be of note is the ability to retain his squad.

Especially given the success they had last season, despite two points deductions, finishing comfortably mid-table and well clear of the relegation zone.

The 22-year-old has an exceedingly bright future, and whether that potential is realised on Merseyside or elsewhere, he is destined for success. Manchester United’s Branthwaite bid earlier in the window suggests they remain the frontrunners to snag him.

Last season actually saw him match James Tarkowski for defensive interactions, which that alone is a remarkable feat, and as he grows his knowledge of the game is only set to elevate to the level of his 31-year-old centre-back partner as well.

Branthwaite recorded an impressive 1.4 interceptions, 1.9 tackles, 4.5 clearances and 5.2 ball recoveries per game in the last Premier League campaign. His compatriot only boasted clearances (4.9) and interceptions (1.5) than him in any of these metrics.

Truly destined for greatness, Dyche will hope he can prove to the titanic defender why Everton remains the place to be, with the future still bright here.
