Everton are set to play another Monday Night Football game as a shocking explanation has now emerged from Sky Sports.
The first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium has certainly felt disrupted due to the lack of Saturday 3pm kick-offs.
Just three home games remain for Everton and, already, two have been scheduled for a Sunday and Monday.
Everton’s game with Man City has been rescheduled for Monday 4th May – it will be the club’s seventh Monday game of the season!
How is this acceptable?!
Everton have played more Monday night games than permitted, but Sky Sports’ reasoning has now been shared.

Sky Sports explanation shared over Everton’s Monday Night Football backlog
The Everton Fan Advisory Board has complained about the number of Monday fixtures, which is now set to reach seven following the Manchester City date change.
According to BBC Sport, Sky Sports could pick Liverpool for the Monday night slot, and Everton for the late kick-off on a Saturday.
Seven games left and on 46 points – how many points do you expect Everton to finish on? 🤔
However, due to Liverpool’s European commitments, Sky could then swap the fixtures and it would not class as Everton being picked for Monday – as they were originally selected to play Saturday.
It is an explanation that offers Everton fans more ambiguity than clarity, with the proposed rules seemingly only loose guidelines.
Premier League clubs are supposedly limited to five Monday fixtures per season, with Everton already surpassing that.
European qualification could end Everton’s Monday curse
With seven games remaining, Everton are in a strong position to potentially land European football.
David Moyes has pushed Everton towards Europe all season long and it would come with plenty of benefits.
Perhaps one of the biggest benefits for Everton fans would be the prospect of being ruled out of a lot of Sky’s Monday night fixtures.
Looking at the table of teams to play on a Monday evening this season, Europa League and Conference League competing Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have played just twice on a Monday between them.
Villa have not played once on a Monday night this season, with Palace and Forest featuring once each.
A lot of benefits would come from European qualification, but this could be one that may go under the radar.
