Everton have had their planning application for a new stadium approved by the government.

The new ground on the Bramley-Moore site needs to pass no more checks.

All that’s left to do is start building the state of the art new stadium which Everton will hope will welcome in a new era.

It will be tough to say goodbye to Goodison Park when the time comes but the club clearly feels a new ground is needed in the name of progress.

It’s a hugely exciting day for Everton fans as it’s been a long process to get here.

With Carlo Ancelotti at the helm and the fight for Champions League football next season still alive, it’s a good time to be a Toffee.

The international break means that Everton have a week off but the announcement means the fans still have something to shout about.
