Everton are in the market to improve their squad this month, with the new owners on Merseyside not looking to mess about.

After securing the takeover, The Friedkin Group will want to see their investment progress from their relegation battle which they find themselves in.

Sean Dyche’s side have been unable to convert their games into wins with only three victories to their name in the league.

Everton are eyeing two new signings in January to combat this, with a new midfielder and forward on the agenda.

However, that is not going to stop Everton from potentially adding to their defence if the right opportunity is to arise.

Everton readying bid for Flamengo’s Wesley

It has already been suggested Everton are showing interest in Kevin Danso to possibly strengthen their options at the back.

But there is a greater need for additions at full-back with a considerable number of options at Dyche’s disposal at centre-back.

And according to journalist Thiago Asmar, sources close to Wesley say the negotiations between Everton and Flamengo are advancing.

With a decision needing to be made by the Brazilian side, a new offer in the region of €20-30m (£16.5-25m) is expected to arrive.

However, the Toffees are not alone in the race to sign the 21-year-old full-back with another unnamed European side said to be in the mix.

Seamus Coleman has failed to secure his future at Everton with his contract set to expire at the end of the term.

And given Ashley Young is in the same boat, it seems the Friedkins may be looking to the future at right-back.

Aston Villa also showing interest in Wesley

Considering the 21-year-old defender is yet to test himself outside of Brazil, there may be a number of Everton fans who have not even heard of him before.

Potentially signing Wesley would certainly carry some risk given the fee set to be involved, but it will be a positive to see Aston Villa also have the player on their radar.

Villa have already seen an opening bid rejected by the Brazilian outfit.

Ashley Young has been praised this season for his efforts at right-back, but at the age of 39, the Toffees could really do with landing a long-term option for the spot.

Bringing in Wesley in the January transfer window could prove a smart move by giving him the rest of the season to settle into life in England.

And then ahead of next season, the 21-year-old will have an advantage and could be ready to take on the starting role at right-back.
