Everton are pushing hard to enjoy a grandstand finish to the summer window, but it’s well-documented that their finances are sparse.
Ideally, Sean Dyche would likely want to bring in two or three new faces, bolstering at right-back, midfield and out wide, yet at present none seem set to come in.
Kevin Thelwell is clearly working relentlessly to find a bargain, to no avail, with his squad somehow still lacking depth and quality despite what seemed like a fine recruitment drive earlier in the window.
Fortunately, one particular problem position could now be solved, with the agent of one of Everton’s targets having now confirmed their interest in the player.
Player’s agent confirms Everton interest
Across the summer window, speculation is always rife, and it’s tough to know what sources can and cannot be trusted.
However, one thing that is indisputable is the player himself, and usually his entourage.

They are naturally only seeking to get the best deals for themselves, as is to be expected, but there simply has to be an element of truth to what they say even if it is with an ulterior motive.
So, with Everton trying to sign Gonzalo Montiel, the latest update from journalist Máximo de la Cruz Ramírez actually gives way to that source: the player’s agent.
He wrote on X: ‘From the player’s agent, they confirm the information of @Canvazmar in @Pride_Nervion about #EvertonFC’s interest in Montiel.
‘There have already been contacts between the English club and the Argentine full-back, and he sees no harm in returning to the Premier League.

‘#SevillaFC awaits the call from #EvertonFC.’
This comes after the Sevilla manager confirmed that the South American full-back was not in his plans, and would therefore leave this summer.
Would Gonzalo Montiel improve Everton?
Having already gathered much-needed Premier League experience last season with Nottingham Forest, and earned pedigree at the very highest level playing at the World Cup with Argentina, on paper Montiel ticks all the boxes.
However, there is far more that explains why the diminutive Argentine would be a fine signing for Everton, and an upgrade on everything they currently have.
Firstly, at 27 years old, he is far younger and thus far more athletic than the likes of Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young.
But, he blends that relative youth with experience beyond that of Nathan Patterson.

A fine ball-playing right-back, who is solid in the tackle and seldom lets the side down, when compared to other full-backs across Europe, he ranks in the top 4% for clearances per 90, and last season paired that with three ball recoveries per game too.
He would be a consistent starter, and a far safer option than what they have got. His acquisition should be a no-brainer.
