Everton picked up three points against Southampton in their Goodison Park farewell on Sunday afternoon.

Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half brace was enough to see off Southampton and it made for a party-like atmosphere throughout.

Everton fans were heard chanting Richarlison’s name and Yakubu’s infamous song was also belted out by the Goodison Park faithful.

Ashley Young and Abdoulaye Doucoure felt the love, too, as they received a brilliant send-off in their final home game for the club.

So, with all that said, it made for a special atmosphere at Goodison Park and Southampton fans had a lot to say about Everton’s atmosphere.

Southampton fans react to Everton’s Goodison Park atmosphere

Everton fans waved goodbye to Goodison Park against Southampton as they prepare to move into the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Saints fans had a lot to say about the atmosphere Everton created on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Fair play like. Never experienced an atmosphere in my life like this,” @SFCAlfie1885 said.

@BDChristian73 posted: “Proper atmosphere in and around Goodison Park today. Streets packed but nothing but good humour the way football should be. Fans from kids to pensioners, police helping with photos.”

@rees_julian added: “The players are down there, but today isn’t about them. I’m not sure I’ve heard sound like this, in honesty.”

@ruddick said: “On the train to Liverpool for the final Goodison match for the men and someone is playing the Beatles’ In My Life on repeat! There are places I’ll remember… beautiful!

“Got no WiFi so none of my videos are sending but brilliant noise here, as you’d expect,” @AlfieHouseEcho commented.

BBC Sport commentator Pat Nevin also shared the same sentiment: “The best atmosphere I have ever witnessed at a football ground in my entire life.”

Special day for Iliman Ndiaye

Ndiaye etched his name in Everton history forever today, as he scored the final ever goal at Goodison.

Speaking after the game, he said: “It’s very special [last goalscorer at Goodison]. I asked the referee to get the ball!

“It means a lot and I wanted to score a hat-trick. Since the day I came in they have been great, I wanted to give them a win today.

“The roar was amazing. It’s an amazing day. They deserve it.”

Pickford also played his part in history and shared that was Moyes’ team talk before the game.

“We would have liked to score four or five,” Pickford explained. “We will go down in history as the last team to win at Goodison. That’s what the manager asked of us today.

“The fans have been brilliant.”
