Ruben Vinagre is set to join Hull City after Everton turned down the chance to buy him.

That’s according to Hull Live, who have reported that the defender is expected to undergo a medical to join Manchester City’s Liam Delap as their second signing at the MKM Stadium.

Vinagre joined Everton on loan from Sporting Lisbon last summer with an option to buy in his contract, however the 24-year-old made only four appearances in all competitions in what was a very underwhelming stint on Merseyside.

Unsurprisingly, the Toffees chose not to make his move permanent and he quickly returned to Portugal.

Vinagre will undergo his medical tomorrow during Hull’s pre-season training camp in Istanbul before completing the move, while they will also have the option to make it permanent next summer.

Ruben Vinagre was another disappointing signing for Everton

Ruben Vinagre was formerly a very exciting youngster for Wolves and worked very well when they would largely adopt wing-backs.

The 24-year-old was believed to be one for the future, with Nuno Espírito Santo praising him in September 2020.

“I think he’s growing, it’s our third season already with Vinagre,” Nuno told WolvesBite. “He’s progressing, improving in a lot of things – tactically, technically.

“But the talent is there and that’s why Vinagre is massively important to us. He’s so versatile and can give us some different things during the game. He’s special.”

The Portuguese youth star was previously a success for the Midlands outfit because of his presence in the final third, so it arguably wasn’t as much of a surprise that he failed at Everton when they mainly featured a back four.

Vinagre has proven to be another wasted signing for the Toffees, who will hopefully be a lot more sensible in the transfer window this time.

Everton are yet to make their first signing of the summer but remain linked with a long list of players.
