Steven Gerrard said he is ‘sure’ Everton will do their utmost to sneak into the UEFA Conference League, after beating Burnley on Tuesday.

David Moyes masterminded a second victory in the space of a few days for the Toffees, and finally got his side back on track at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

James Tarkowski and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goals gave Everton the win and took the club up to 43 points in the Premier League.

Make no mistake about it, Everton are firmly in the hunt to get European football, and Steven Gerrard gave his thoughts on TNT Sports after last night’s events.

Steven Gerrard tips Everton to challenge for European football

Gerrard was actually at Molineux last night providing punditry for TNT for Wolves’ game with Liverpool.

The Reds crashed to a shock 2-1 defeat against the Premier League’s bottom side, with Andre’s deflected strike handing the hosts all three points.

After analysing the game, a disappointed Gerrard was asked about Everton after the win against Burnley.

He said: “Really good. David Moyes has been brilliant for Everton. (He’s) done really well, I’m sure they’re going to try and sneak in the back door into those European places. We know he likes the Conference League.

“He’s done it before, so yeah, I think they’re going to put pressure on the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Brentford.”

Gerrard’s body language was interesting to observe as he spoke. The former Liverpool captain was complimentary of Everton, and definitely looked slightly concerned about the prospect of Everton playing European football, potentially at Liverpool’s expense.

He also gave a wry smile when he mentioned about Moyes liking the Conference League.

Moyes calls for consistency from Everton

After the game, Moyes spoke about consistency for Everton, suggesting that it’s been a problem ‘previously’.

So far this season, Everton have not won three consecutive games.

The club did go on a run of four wins in five games in November and December which was encouraging.

But it’s safe to say that Everton haven’t really had too many purple patches and this will now be paramount as other teams start to feel the pressure in the hunt for Europe.
