Jack Harrison has opened up on his ‘complicated’ move to Everton.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Harrison admitted that he was happy he ended up joining the Toffees following his debut in the Carabao Cup.

Despite signing a new five-year deal with Leeds United in April, the winger was heavily linked with a loan move away this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

Everton looked set to secure a quality loan deal for Harrison before Aston Villa swooped in and looked to hijack the transfer as he was already undergoing a medical at Finch Farm.

While it was briefly expected that Villa would be successful in their attempts, Everton eventually announced Harrison’s arrival at the club after a lot of confusion around his future.

Following a hip injury, the 26-year-old went onto make his debut in their Carabao Cup victory over Villa on Wednesday night and he has now heaped praise on the Merseyside outfit.

When asked what happened in the days before his arrival, Harrison said: “There is a long story behind it. I think I have to sit down and explain it properly, I don’t want to say anything out of turn.

“It was a complicated situation and in the end I ended up at Everton and I was happy to go there. I saw the values of the club, it’s a fantastic club and I’m surprised that they’ve been in the situation they have over the last couple of years.

“I think that with the talent they’ve got in the squad and the facilities with the staff and set-up they have as a club is very good. I’m happy to be here and hopefully I can add to an already talented team and we can build on these performances of the last two games and can create some success here at the club.”

Why didn’t Jack Harrison move to Aston Villa?

Following Harrison’s move to Goodison Park, there were reports emerging claiming that Unai Emery’s side had decided against signing him due to the extent of his injury.

It is unclear whether the winger would have chosen to move to Villa Park over Everton, but fans will want to avoid what ifs and will instead now be able to enjoy his talent rather than witnessing him line up against them last night.

Harrison is clearly a brilliant footballer and often saved Leeds United on a number of occasions with his goals and assists. He clearly has experience in battling relegation, but hopefully his presence will steer the Toffees clear of any of that.
