Jarrod Bowen is a player Everton have looked at signing after West Ham United’s relegation, but a development today may now make a move more difficult.
Everton need to reinforce in the wide areas.
Are there any players from the relegated clubs you want to see Everton go after this summer? 🤔
Wolves, Burnley and West Ham have all lost their Premier League status…
Tyrique George is a player Everton want to sign permanently, but there are currently question marks over Jack Grealish and Dwight McNeil.
Iliman Ndiaye has also been linked with a move away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.
Bowen has been a standout performer for West Ham over the years, and many have predicted he will leave the club in this window.
But today, West Ham have done something that could actually see him stay.
Mateus Fernandes set to leave West Ham in £85m sale which could dash Everton’s Jarrod Bowen hopes
This evening, it has been reported by BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign Mateus Fernandes for a staggering £85 million.
It is huge money, and if the sale goes through as expected, then it will smash their club record, previously held by Dominic Solanke, who joined for £65 million from Bournemouth.
He had a great season for the Hammers. But many are already saying that he is not worth that much.
But what is interesting for Everton is that this could now potentially affect their pursuit of Bowen.
There is the notion that West Ham have cashed in on one of their best players which, granted, may not sit too well with Bowen.
But the sale, in theory, relieves a bit of pressure on West Ham to cash in on their talisman.
Bowen loves the club and has been settled there for many years.
Straight after their relegation, he hinted that there was a possibility he could stay at the club.

That would be quite the outcome given his clear capability to play in the Premier League, but there is seemingly a chance that could now happen, especially after the Fernandes sale.
West Ham may not totally rule out selling Bowen. But the Fernandes sale could easily see them now raise Bowen’s asking price.
We’ll see what happens. But it does feel like the chances of signing Bowen for a reasonable fee after West Ham’s relegation just became a lot slimmer.
