Everton had been enjoying a little too much positivity of late, so it was only right the fanbase be dragged back down to earth by a crushing piece of news.
Dan Friedkin’s takeover had collapsed.
It was a deal that seemed like a formality, with the American having swooped in after 777 Partners’ botched attempts to assume control, but by now everyone should know that life under Farhad Moshiri‘s rule is never simple.
His misconduct across numerous years has regressed the club to within an inch of its life, and amassed mountains of crippling and ridiculously convoluted debt.
It will take a madman or a rich risk-taker to snag Everton now, and unfortunately, the bad news does not stop there.
The Esk delivers grim Everton takeover update
Having been a harbinger of doom for some time during 777 Partners’ proposed takeover saga, Paul Quinn’s miserable rantings did end up largely accurate in this particular instance.
However, fans unsurprisingly got tired of such unrelenting misery, even if there were elements of truth to it.

But with Dan Friedkin, his glowing recommendation marked gold dust, as he finally offered a positive viewpoint on an Everton matter.
Naturally, with that falling through, cynicism has returned, but instead in the form of what he has been hearing about the next in line to take over at Everton.
Taking to X, The Esk, as he is better known, sought to respond to one fan who was seeking an update on any potential new investors.
The finance guru and writer simply replied: ‘There are no new investors at this stage mate. Same PR people spinning the same nonsense as usual.’
Everton remain an attractive takeover proposition
Despite what some might argue, Everton are far from this unbuyable outfit that they have been painted as.
After all, despite this crippling debt, solving that puzzle would unlock unlimited benefits on Merseyside.
Whoever assumes control and overcomes the financial issues, creating a sustainable environment and a sensible long-term strategy, would be inheriting a solid squad that is just a few quality additions away from climbing up the Premier League table.
They already have a sturdy and reliable manager in charge in Sean Dyche, and a director of football in Kevin Thelwell who has worked wonders on a shoestring budget since joining.

Everton are also set to move into their new home at the Bramley-Moore Dock, and thus will have one of the newest and most innovative stadiums in the country too.
There is so much to like about the Toffees still. All it takes is one brave buyer.
