With the January transfer window just days away from opening, there is one clear area which Everton need to bolster next month.

Goals have been the biggest issue for the Toffees with only one other side in the Premier League [Southampton] scoring fewer goals this season.

Sean Dyche has stuck with Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top despite him only returning two goals as his contract dwindles down.

The Friedkin Group are monitoring Serie A for potential transfer options in the January market with the Americans also owning AS Roma.

However, there is one striker who Everton are now eyeing from Ligue 1 ahead of the January transfer window.

Everton eyeing Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze for January

Calvert-Lewin is receiving interest ahead of the summer with the striker showing very little indication of putting pen to paper on a new deal.

According to FootMercato, Everton are just one of the sides who are showing a keen interest in signing Georges Mikautadze next month.

Interest from across Europe is growing in the 24-year-old striker with Bayer Leverkusen also keen on the Georgia international.

This report comes amid a substantial update from Fabrizio Romano who has shared news of a rejected big from Galatasaray.

It is claimed the Turkish side have put forward €17m (£14m) for Mikautadze, but that offer is not deemend enough by John Textor’s Lyon.

Everton are battling PSR once again next month with the Toffees’ ability to spend expected to be limited despite the new ownership.

Georges Mikautadze likened to Kylian Mbappe

Everton’s need for reinforcement up front is there for all to see with Beto also set for January interest from Serie A.

Mikautadze has had a solid start to the 2024/25 campaign for Lyon having netted seven goals across all competitions.

Speaking to the French media during the Georgian’s time with Metz, manager Laszlo Boloni hailed the 24-year-old as their own Kylian Mbappe.

“Now, he’s rediscovering his wellbeing. For the whole team, when you have a goalscorer, it’s the most joyous thing. Mikautadze isn’t Kylian Mbappe but he’s FC Metz’s Mbappe!” he said.

Although scoring four in Ligue 1 may not be hugely inspiring, providing some solid competition to the likes of Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja could be exactly what Dyche needs.
