Everton fan Andy Burnham has found himself in the headlines lately after being cleared to stand as a candidate for Labour in the Makerfield by-election.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester has consequently engaged in several interviews with a range of media outlets, and during a chat with Channel 4 News on Saturday afternoon, cameras captured the 56-year-old showing his appreciation for the Toffees after an Everton fan walked past.

Andy Burnham halts interview to acknowledge Everton

The man born in Aintree was holding a pretty important interview outlining his plans for Labour and the challenges England currently face as a nation – but still found time to express his love for Everton.

50 seconds into a clip posted by Channel 4 News, Burnham – who also likes Celtic – stopped to greet an Everton fan walking by, patting his chest to acknowledge the Everton badge seen on the supporter’s coat before seamlessly returning to the interview.

It was nothing more than a subtle moment many might have missed, but it was nonetheless nice to see some representation for Everton amidst a significant situation for the nation.

It is not the first time Burnham has shown his love for the Toffees.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester spoke highly of the Hill Dickinson Stadium earlier this season, even claiming it is better than the £1bn Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when saying: “I think Hill Dickinson is the first of a new generation of modern stadium, even more so than Spurs, I think, because that kind of noise factor is there, isn’t it?”

Sunday marks the final home game of the season for Everton! 😳

Burnham also called on Farhad Moshiri to sell the Toffees to a pair of safe hands back in May 2024 – he quite clearly cares a lot about the Toffees, so much so that we even have three pages of content on Everton News detailing his comments on the club.
