The six Everton stars most at risk of new sin bin includes Dyche’s best player

With the new sin bin rule potentially entering professional football, here are the six Everton players most at risk should it come into play.

Given one is arguably the team’s best player, it will be a huge worry for Sean Dyche.

Football as we know it seems to be changing with every new campaign, as the Premier League seeks to find the perfect balance between the spectacle and the fair. The latter, however, has certainly been lacking in recent years.

The Toffees will certainly testify to that end.

Recent contentious VAR calls have left the club among others furious, but as much as their ruling in their financial case which saw them deducted ten points. Realistically, it cannot get much worse than that.

However, with sin bins to be trialled as part of new IFAB law proposals, it actually could do.

The new rules in question state that only a captain can approach the referee to contend decisions, and that ‘dissent and specific tactical offences’ will also fall under its umbrella.

So, what would that actually mean for Everton?

Well, after just 12 Premier League games, 11 of their stars have already picked up at least one booking, with those names ranging from Youssef Chermiti to Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The latter, who has arguably been the club’s best player since Dyche took over, sits atop that list with four yellow cards alongside Ashley Young and Jarrad Branthwaite.

His four league goals this season make him their top scorer, and yet his 23 fouls rank him the fourth-highest against others in the division. Not only that, but the Mali international even received a yellow card on Sunday for dissent too.

Their 21-year-old centre-back is also high on that list, sitting 22nd with 16 fouls.

Although Young has been deemed something of a liability in recent weeks, that could reach new heights if he is to continue being played. Harry Maguire had to hold him back on Sunday too, as the 38-year-old sought to debate the penalty he conceded with the official.

With three yellow cards, many of which could be deemed somewhat cynical, Idrissa Gueye is the next most likely, with James Garner not far behind on two. Given they both boast a nasty streak and a ruthlessness that often gives them the edge in the midfield battle, this new ruling could prove costly.

And finally, James Tarkowski is another who, if he is forced to bring someone down, could fall foul of the regime given his position on the field.
